About Briken

Briken is a Kenyan development company formed by Peter Njeru and Hand in Hand Group. We partner Kenyan land owners to undertake inner city developments and construct affordable housing. Briken are development managers who mobilise investment. The outcome of these partnerships is quality construction by either creating sustainable income or providing affordable housing for lower income groups. Briken establish apprenticeships in each development to provide onsite training as part of their commitment to long-term sustainable solutions.

Briken was formed by directors Engineer Peter Njeru and Quantity Surveyor Grant Smith in 2014.

Peter Njeru

Engineer

Engineer Peter Njeru is the Managing Director and founder of Riva Petroleum dealers, one of East Africa’s successfully developed local oil companies with footprints across many parts of the region. Eng. Njeru graduated with honors of BSC Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi in 1984 and is a registered engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya. Later he advanced his studies by attaining an MBA (Finance) from Egerton University. Drawing on his engineering foundation, Peter has been responsible for many construction developments in Kenya.

Grant Smith

Quantity Surveyor

Grant Smith is a quantity surveyor who has worked with international construction companies and managed his own consultancy practice in the UK for over thirty years. Grant is a director of Briken and CEO of Hand in Hand Group. He is professionally and personally committed to creating a commercial response to poverty. Grant is the chair of Hand in Hand Foundation.

Hand in Hand Group

Hand in Hand Group has worked in Kenya for 20 years, responding to poverty through commercial business. During this time, HiHG have developed strong partnerships with both construction professionals and landowners.
We bring together investors and landowners all of which are Not for Profit organisations, to maximise their assets and therefore impact. We create fairer employment, facilitate construction apprentices and generate rental income to the organisation to sustain their vision
